The Kari Kari no Mi is a Paramecia -type Devil Fruit that allows the user the ability to summon scythes both as part of their body or in their hands, turning the user into a Soul-Reaping Human (霊刈り取り人間, Rei Karitori Ningen). "Kari" is Japanese for "reap". It was eaten by Doctor Karasu.

The scythes are as strong as regular steel blades and while the handles appear to be wood they are as strong as steel. The user is able to summon a unique "Death Scythe" (デス・サイズ, Desu Saizu) that does not do physical damage when used as a weapon. This unique scythe allows the user to remove the 'soul' from those cut by it. This is not limited to killing blows, as an individual can be cut across a limb and have the 'soul' removed from the limb. This renders the afflicted body part useless and it takes on the appearance of a dead, withered limb.
'Souls' that are removed by the Death Scythe take the form of a transparent blue bubble that changes size depending what what the scythe cut. A bubble that contains the soul of a creature's limb is the size of an apple, while a full soul of a creature is the size of a grape fruit. These bubbles can be handled by anyone, and can be returned to the victim to reverse the affects. The user of the Kari Kari no Mi can place these 'soul bubbles' into their shadowy cloak, where it vanishes into a shadowy dimension only accessible by the user. Soul bubbles placed into the cloak persist as long as the current fruit user is alive, and can only be retrieved by the current user. If a soul bubble is not taken or consumed then it will slowly dissipate over a few days and return to original victim, ending any afflictions they had.
The user is able to perform various abilities utilizing these soul bubbles. By consuming a soul bubble the user gains a few random memories from the victim's life. This usually consists of one major memory for every ten years of the victim's life.
Any time the user consumes a soul bubble their wounds begin to heal at a much faster rate and their lifespan increases by one month.
The user is able to infuse their Death Scythe with a soul to give it a temporary increase in power. A soul infused scythe is able to do physical damage as well as severe souls. A unique void-like aura can be applied to the scythe that increases its cutting power and allows it to erase everything it cuts from existence.
Another unique quality of the fruit is the "Black Cloak" (黒外套, Kurogaitou). It is the user's soul manifesting as a shadowy, malleable construct that cannot be removed involuntarily. The user can change its form at will but always retains a loose, shadowy appearance. Though it can take the form of armor the cloak is only as strong as the user's will power, and can be enhanced with haki usage.
